CAU Alumni Cup

The CAU Alumni Cup will take place on May 12 and 13, 2023.
Start: Segelzentrum der CAU, Soling 34, 24159 Kiel-Schilksee

Friday, May 12th 2023,
there will first be a meet and greet from 17:00.
Look forward to our guest of honor René Schwall, multiple world champion and 2000 Olympic bronze medal winner.
After the official welcome, we will go to the jetty to get to know the boats, as the boats will be provided by the CAU Sailing Centre.

Saturday, May 13th 2023,
the CAU Alumni Cup will be held from 9:30 a.m. with six identical Mantra 28 yachts in Strander Bucht off Schilksee. Each boat will have an experienced sailor from the sailing centre on board at all times. With four races with six teams per race and four people per team, up to 96 people can actively participate in the Cup. It would be desirable if 24 crews of four people each could be found in advance, one of whom would feel confident enough to lead one of our boats. The sailor of the sailing centre will then only support on board.

Students pay 15,00 EUR to participate in the race.
All other participants pay 35,00 EUR.

The first race starts at 11:00 and the last at 15:30. The best crews of the four races compete in an final race at 17:00. The award ceremony and closing ceremony is scheduled from 19:00.

The shore programme:
The regattas will be broadcast live via tracker and can be followed on a big screen in the sailing centre. There will also be lectures on various topics:

16:00 Uhr: Paul Marbach - One Earth One Ocean: Plastik im Meer - Die SeeKuh räumt auf

The announcement is aimed at alumni, companies, relatives, friends and students of the CAU.

Can I also participate as a single person?
In principle, yes. However, you should ideally represent an institution or company and register through them. Individuals may be assigned to other crews and then form a mixed team.

What about safety and insurance?
Members of Kiel University are insured for this event. Participation by external persons is at their own risk. We recommend that all participants check their private insurance cover.

What about bad weather?
We do not know bad weather. In case of extreme weather conditions, we will try to adjust the plan accordingly. A general refund of fees is not possible.

What format is used for sailing?
The corresponding sailing instructions will be discussed with the helmsmen before the start. The race committee pays attention to balanced and fair conditions.
